Corrections - Course Description
The corrections program will prepare you for application to county, state or federal corrections departments. The course curriculum is based on the program certified by the state of Corrections Peace Officers Standards and Training (CPOST). Your course will cover institutional procedures and regulations. Your firearms training and qualification will include the Berretta Centurian Automatic, Ruger Government Model 14, and Remington Police Shotgun. New this year is instruction in less lethal armaments.
Students will be exposed to emergency simulations and practice tactical responses. Situation Response Team (SRT) training includes emergency responder first aid, prison riot control procedures and intelligence gathering methods.

This course is preparatory for entrance to a CPOST academy. Graduates will still be required to complete the CPOST academy upon hire.
Educational Objectives
To develop a comprehensive understanding of the correctional institutional environment. Training in the proper methods of basic firearms training, and instruction in less lethal armaments. Training that will expose the student to emergency responder, first aid, prisoner control procedures and intelligence gathering methods.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Corrections course will be prepared for entry in the field of corrections. Examples are: Prisoner Transport, Hospital Security, Court Security, and Work Release programs.
